What are local access forums?

0

Local access forums are bodies set to advise these access authorities. They are made up of councillors, landowners, farmers and user groups like horse riders and walkers. They advise on such issues as access management, new signs or proposed long-term local access restrictions and Rights of Way management plans. For more information see Local Access Forums.

Local access forums are set up by local authorities. They bring together land managers, users, and others who are interested in access. Forums will advise their local authority about access and rights of way issues, and help to resolve any local problems.

These are a requirement of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act and have been set up to advise Local Authorities on Open Access and Rights of Way Improvement Plans. They involve users, landowners and other interested persons, but members are specifically requested not to represent “organisations”. They will have up to 22 members and it is very much in our interests to have cyclists represented on these forums. Contact your PRoW office and find out about attending the next meeting where you can chat to the cycling represntative – or better still see if you can get onto the forum itself.
