What are liver enzymes…..?
If the doctor was checking the liver, he would do different kinds of blood testing to see what may be happening: (1)The liver cells makes enzymes…If the cells of the liver become damaged, then these enzymes are released into the blood. This causes a rise in these enzymes. However, some of these enzymes are not specific to just the liver. They can be made in other organs or places in the body. I’m going to refer to these enzymes as ALT, AST, and ALP. ALT is made mostly in the liver…so if this enzyme rises very high…it could signify a problem with the liver. AST is made some by the liver, but is also made by other organs. So it is used to back up the ALT results. Therefore it is not a true reliable source of whether it is a liver problem, by itself. ALP is made by the biliary system mostly, but it is also made by the bones also. Therefore, it is also not specific for a liver problem…mostly for the bones and biliary area. No one blood test is 100% accurate. Some things a patient m
