What are “live and active” cultures?

0

Live and active cultures (bacteria) have been used for hundreds of years in foods such as yogurt, kefir, and other fermented products. Some of these live, active cultures have been shown to provide health benefits. These beneficial cultures are called probiotics. In the can, Bifidobacterium lactis – the probiotic added to PROTECT PLUS™ – are “inactive.” Once water is added, the probiotic bacteria become active – capable of reproducing and interacting within the infant’s digestive system to provide protective benefits. This is similar to the probiotic bacteria sold as supplements in powder or capsules; however, infant formula is highly regulated.
