Lebanese people don’t speak Arabic, we speak Lebanese which is heavily Aramaic-influenced. But many people in Lebanon are speakers of Arabic, too, and could easily hold a conversation in an Arab country like Yemen. French used to be the second most spoken language in Lebanon, and it still is spoken by some 40% of the Lebanese. But in the last few decades, English became a more important language in Lebanon, and I believe English became the popular second language of choice for many Lebanese. One of the reasons is with declining Christian influence in Lebanon, French influence also declined. Another reason is because back in the day when French was also the primary language in Lebanon, France was a world power and among the world’s most influential nations. Now, France is not as strong a nation and English is becoming an important language to learn all over the world because of America. I think Lebanese should stop speaking arabic since they keep saying they aren’t ethnically arab 😉 They don’t deserve to speak this precious language : D
