What are lab-created or synthetic gems?
As opposed to natural precious and semi-precious gemstones, lab-created gems are made in a lab to possess the same optical, chemical, and mineral properties, as the naturally occurring ones. Lab-created gems look similar to the natural gems, although they will not have the flaws that are inherent in natural gemstones as these flaws are eliminated during the lab creation process. They are labeled as such and cost a fraction of the price of naturally occurring gemstones. Synthetic gems are imitations of the naturally occurring gemstone but they do not possess the same chemical or physical properties. A common synthetic diamond is the cubic zirconia. It resembles the diamond, though not nearly as hard or brilliant, and can easily be seen as synthetic and not natural. As for its value, due to the scarcity of naturally occurring gemstone, those will always cost more and are therefore more valuable.
