What are kidney cysts and how are they treated?
Kidney cysts are fluid-filled masses that can appear anywhere in the kidney. Kidney cysts can be congenital or acquired. Cysts are lined by a thin layer of cells called epithelial cells. Kidney cysts are very common. Kidney cysts are discovered incidentally in 25% of imaging studies of the abdominal contents. Kidney cysts rarely cause symptoms. Cysts can be multiple and they can occur in both kidneys. According to the Bosniak classification system, kidney cysts can be classified in one of four categories.
