As a precursor (and as preparation) to the Miss age division, we are offering up a non-mandatory category of competition entitled “Community Service Essay”. In the Miss division each contestant has a “platform”. A platform statement (an essay no more than 300 words) on an issue that they would address as Miss Hampton Roads/Miss Virginia is required. For the younger age divisions, you can use this sample as a guideline, but bear in mind, you can talk about your community service as a whole, not one specific platform and that you can do 1.5 or 2 line spacing on your essay. Remember to tell how you have made a difference with this topic. During interview what types of questions, will the judges ask me? Teens, the judges can ask you current event questions, community service oriented questions, and questions directly from the Fact Sheet that you complete to enter.
