What are Jackson Memorial Hospital’s policies regarding Advance Directives?
It is the policy of Jackson Memorial Hospital to provide all patients with written information regarding their rights under state law to execute Advance Directives and plan for their future health care in the event that they are unable to communicate their wishes to their physicians. While all patients will be offered the opportunity to execute Advance Directives, Jackson Memorial Hospital will not condition the provision of care or otherwise discriminate against an individual based on whether or not the individual has executed an Advance Directive. If a patient executes an Advance Directive and provides a copy to the hospital, the Advance Directive will be made a part of the patient’s medical record. If the use of the Advance Directive becomes necessary, the hospital will abide by the wishes of the patient or the patient’s surrogate to the extent permissible by law.
