What are ionic, covalent, polar and non polar elements and compounds?

there are generally two types of compounds, namely ionic and covalent. ionic compounds are formed by transfer of electrons whereas covalent compounds are formed by mutual sharing of electrons. ionic elements means the atom which has lost or gained electrons, and acquired a charge subsequently. non polar compounds are formed by equal sharing of electrons whereas in case of polar compounds the atoms which are taking part in chemical bonding one of the atom being more electronegative pulls the shared pair of electrons more towards it thus it acquresa negative charge and other postive charge, which acts as positve and negative poles so the name polar covalent compound.
