What are hot air balloons for?
Hot air balloons in their early days were used by the U.S. military for dropping bombs. Now days balloons are used for three reasons: sport(competition), recreational(just for fun), and commercial(paid balloon flights). Hot air ballooning is very fun and interesting. You never know will the winds will take you, you never know what kinds of surprises will be thrown at you and the ride is gently and sort of peaceful. The only reason I say sort of peaceful is because the burners are loud. Commercial balloons are usually larger however some pilots give private flights without any other passenger which will be a smaller balloon usually about 90,000 cubic foot envelope. Sport ballooning usually involves small balloons that are round 56,000 cubic foot envelopes. The largest commercial balloon built to date is 600,000 cubic feet. That is enormous.
