What are honors courses and are they worth it?
Honors Courses are offered at a more challenging level than the usual academic college prep courses. High schools may have several distinctions for honors courses—and may require that you have an A in the previous course in that subject matter to take a course at an honors level. An AP course IS an honors course, but it also includes the chance to take the AP exam at the end which can earn you college credit for the course if your grade on the AP exam meets the requirements for advanced standing at the college that you choose to attend—usually a four is a minimum grade for advanced standing. Honors courses would simply have their own final exam or project or paper at the end of the course. The benefit of an honors course is to challenge yourself academically in a subject that you do well in. Colleges also look at the academic level of the program that you’ve taken in high school, but you should only take an honors or an AP course if you believe you’ll do well in it. Talk with you guida
