What are Hepatitis A and E?
Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver that accounts for 20–25% of the cases of clinical hepatitis in developed countries. It is caused by an RNA virus that can be found in blood, stool, and the liver during the acute phase of the disease. This disease is acute and self-limiting and does not play a role in the development of cirrhosis or chronic active hepatitis. Rarely, it can cause fulminant liver failure.
