The most common form of hair implants is donation from either yourself, or another donor. This process is an out patient procedure called grafting. There are three different kinds of grafts, micro, slit, and punch grafts. Micro grafts usually only hold about one to two hairs per graft, slit grafts usually contain around four to ten, while punch grafts hold between ten and fifteen hairs. During this procedure, anesthetic can be injected into the scalp and if the patient feels necessary to be comfortable, sedation can also be used. The surgeon doing the implant first removes a small circular portion of scalp which still bears hair, usually from the back of the head. The surgeon then cuts this piece of scalp into smaller segments with varying amounts of hair. This helps to achieve a subtle thickening look which also appears quite natural.
