What are GURs?
GUR stands for General University Requirements. They are a selection of courses that combine with your major specific courses to give you a well-rounded, liberal arts education. To graduate, all students, except those admitted to Fairhaven College, must complete the GURs either at Western, or through AP/IB, Running Start, or other transfer credits to graduate. GURs include courses in: • Communication (commonly referred to as ACOM, BCOM, CCOM) • Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (QSR) • Humanities (HUM) • Social Sciences (SSC) • Comparative, Gender and Multicultural Studies (ACGM, BCGM) • Natural Science (LSCI, SCI) Review the Viking Advisor for more details and to read descriptions of the GUR course offerings.
