WHAT ARE GRADIENT COMPRESSION STOCKINGS?
Compression stockings are special knee-length elastic garments that support the venous and lymphatic systems of the leg. They should not be confused with elastic support stockings (TED Hose). They provide optimal levels of graded compression for promoting blood flow and reducing the risk of thrombosis using a graduated compression (pressure) with maximum compression applied to the ankle and gradually decreasing up the leg. Compression stockings are often referred to as diabetic stockings, however, it should be noted that while many diabetics do wear them, not all wearers are diabetics. Compression stockings are available in a wide range of opacities, colors, styles and sizes, making them virtually indistinguishable from regular hosiery or socks. They can be purchased as prescriptive or non-prescriptive.
