What are good introductory and beginner level Bioinformatic books?
The book which I would recommend as giving a solid introduction to the subject in a reasonable degree of generality is Bioinformatics by Baldi and Brunak. This is a fairly applied introduction which makes use of maths but isn’t about the maths for its own sake. It should be rigorous enough that it doesn’t offend your sensibilities too much whilst still getting across much of the bioinformatics that you want to learn.
