I don’t know what kinds of books you like to read. I am an old science fiction fan from the word go –I spoke to Marion Zimmer Bradley a few times before the Mists of Avalon came out, and I’ve read most of those things — but when I was about your age the book that really got me started on King Arthur is one of the few books of Victorian Poetry I ever loved — Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Idylls of the King. After that I discovered Robert Graves’s translation of Malory’s La Morte D’Arthur and by the time Mary Stewart and Marion Zimmer Bradley turned their typewriters to the legend I was already hopelessly hooked on the subject. Tennyson is Tennyson. You may like it or not. Malory was written in Medieval English while Chretian des Troyes and Wolfram von Eschenbach were writing in older forms of French and German.
