What are giardia & cryptosporidium?
Giardia and Cryptosporidium are protozoan parasites too small to be seen without a microscope. They can occur in surface waters (lakes and rivers), especially when these waters are contaminated with animal waste. They are removed during the treatment process by filtration. Please note that the most common source of infection is personal contact with and between pre-school age children.
