These are the two types of valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery. For efficient recombination of charge gas, VRLA technology requires that the acid electrolyte be immobilized. The electrolyte may be gelled, or it may be absorbed into a glass mat separator (Absorbed Glass Mat, or AGM).
