What Are Geishas and Geisha Costumes?
A geisha is a traditional female performer in Japan. They are artists who perform classical dances, music and even poetry. They are the embodiment of femininity; that of which are subtlety, strength, and grace. They are elegant and dignified hostesses who are trained to perform in Japanese ceremonies and entertain the guests at the tea house. A geisha is an iconic figure of Japan, much like that of the Samurai. It is distinctly Japanese. To be a geisha, one must be trained in the arts first. A young geisha ideally wears a more intricate kimono costume design and make-up. But as one matures and ages, their make-ups and kimono costumes shift to more of a neutral and toned down finish as her skills at entertainment are considered more valuable now.
