What Are Gable Louvers?
A building’s gable is the triangular portion of the endwall, from the level of the eave to the ridge of the roof; i.e. the space between the two slopes of the roof. A louver is an assembly of slanted blades (also known as plates or fins) designed to permit a flow of air while deflecting such things as objects, dirt, or wind-driven water. Gable louvers are simply louvers, which is sized and shaped to be installed in the gables end of a building. A gable louver’s purpose is usually functional: to provide ventilation, generally to the attic space of a house. The higher gable louvers are placed, the more effective it will be for the purpose of exhaust. Sometimes gable louvers are used in conjunction with fans, which are in turn controlled by thermostats, allowing attics to be vented when the temperature reaches a pre-selected level.
