What are Freshman Seminars?
• Discussion-based and writing-intensive courses limited to 15 students a class • Designed to help freshmen students adjust to writing and thinking at the college level • All WCAS freshmen must take two seminars: 1 in fall with their academic advisor and 1 in winter/spring • Graduate students may only teach a winter/spring seminar, since they cannot serve as advisors • Submit a course description the quarter before you teach: check with dept assistant for details • Contact Tessie Cachola in the Dean’s office with any questions
Freshman Seminars are small classes in which a group of students and a professor work together on a topic of special interest to them. Each year, over 60 Freshman Seminars will be offered. Enrollment in the seminars is by application. Freshman Seminars are regular University classes and count as one of the 36 required for the B.S.E. degree. Most fulfill University distribution requirements. A number of engineering students take Freshman Seminars each year, and we encourage their participation in the program.
