What are forms of Urinary Incontinence (UI)?
UI can be of many forms. A careful evaluation is needed to fully understand the problem. Urge UI (often referred to as Over Active Bladder or OAB) is a sudden and compelling urge to urinate with a fear that you may actually leak. Bedwetting (waking up wet – often with a preceding dream of urinating), or losing urine during orgasm may also be symptoms of OAB. Not all patients with OAB have incontinence. Some have just a frequent urge to void immediately. Others may just have a pattern of waking up frequently at night to go to the bathroom (nocturia). Stress UI is an involuntary loss of urine with anything that increases abdominal pressure. Though people often think of SUI as associated with coughing, laughing or sneezing, it can also be noticed with exercising, lifting or even during sexual intercourse prior to having orgasm.
