What are floating holidays?

0

All permanent employees, with the exception of new hires, are given three (3) floating holidays per year. These may be used in conjunction with holidays or annual leave. They must be scheduled just as annual leave. New employees hired during the payroll year are entitled to floating holidays according to the following schedule: hire date from the beginning of the payroll year through April 30 – two (2) floating holidays; hire date of May 1 through August 31 – one (1) floating holiday; and hire date of September 1 through the end of the payroll year – no (0) floating holidays. The revision of the Holidays rule also allows eligible employees to use the Floating Holidays in two-hour increments.
