First paper was in a Chinese tomb built about 86 B.C. The paper was thick and spongy. It was used like cloth but not to write on. It was used for armor, shoes, & blankets. They had to watch out because insects eat paper and the sun makes it yellow. Some books with good care lasted 100’s of years.
