What are examples of policies that improve access to safe places for children to play?
Each proposal will be reviewed based on the criteria identified in the solicitation, including the potential to increase the availability access to safe places to play. We encourage applicants to determine a policy goal that reflects the needs of their community and has the potential to have lasting impact. Some examples of policies that have had population impact include: • Environmental policies that keep neighborhoods free from crime, traffic and debris. • Comprehensive plans, zoning, subdivision ordinances and other planning practices that increase availability and accessibility of opportunities for physical activity in new developments. • Zoning or land use ordinances that improve streets, sidewalks and street-crossing for safer routes to school. • Structured tax incentive programs that motivate developers to consider incorporating community design elements, such as wide sidewalks and mixed-use development.
