Wordsworth – a lot of his poetry revolves around a similar theme, and there’s a book you might like to look up called “Wordsworth and the Poetry of Suffering”. Also, I love Nights at the Circus by Angela Carter which has a strong feminist theme about the suffering of women before emancipation in the 20th century, and the private pain of a woman born with wings.
