What are examples of metaphors?
A metaphor is saying that something is something else, for poetic or descriptive purposes. (If you say something is ‘like’ something else, then that’s a simile). So examples would include ‘He was a monster, when he drank’, or ‘The sky was an explosion that night’. Saying ‘He was bigger than a house’ is not a metaphor, because you’re comparing him to the house, rather than saying he IS the house.
