The Essential Skills Clusters (ESC’s) are skills statements that complement some of the NMC’s outcomes and proficiencies contained within the Standards of proficiency for pre-registration nursing education (NMC 2007). The ESC’s were introduced for all students starting the programme from September 2008 onwards and they form the basis of the Practice Learning and Assessment Document (PLAD).
