What are Energy Star Appliances?
An international standard was set for energy efficient appliances including consumer products by United States in 1992. This standard is known as “Energy Star”. This program was adopted by nations such as Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, Australia and the European Union. The US Environment Protection Agency along with the US Department of Energy created a label known as “Energy Star”. This was created to help the consumers to save money on energy bills and also to minimize pollution of air. A few of the appliances on which the logo of “Energy Star” could be found are the refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioners, washing machines and dryers. An appliance is rated as energy efficient if the energy required by it is less than the minimum energy set by the government agencies. Such appliances are awarded the “Energy Star” symbols.
