Communicate and communicate….be it layoffs, paycuts,hiring plans, management restructuring, ensure employees are the first one to hear the news. If the organisation is cutting down on employee benefits, have sessions with employees explaining the impact, the positive outcome of such measues and how you care for them. Employee first is important, even if you are laying off employees do make them feel important, and if possible form a alumni network of these employees and help them in outplacement. If required moderate this group of employees, manage their concerns and talk to them so they spread the good word.
