What are Electronic Rail Passes?
Electronic rail passes (or E-pass) are a new form of “Boarding Pass”, traditionally issued as a paper pass by prototype railroads. The E-pass is a way of offering a boarding pass to visitors of a web layout, and has been growing in popularity in recent years. Model railroaders may collect passes from web site virtual layout tours and e-mail their own pass in return. Besides being fun to collect, it is a form of layout advertising. You may view the E-passes received by the San Diego Model Railroad Club, make a transfer to the sender’s virtual layout (if available), or review a list of recipients of our club’s electronic rail pass. You may also request your own pass via an on-line form.
