What are effects of Minerva IUD?
The Mirena is one of the most effective birth control methods (99.9%), and when it agrees with you, it’s wonderful. It can cause your periods to cease altogether, and you won’t have to think about contraception. It can cause weight gain, lowered libido, benign ovarian cysts, and mood changes, though, and it makes some women miserable. It also raises your risk of pelvic infections. I had mine taken out when it caused a pretty major infection. Other possibilities would be the NuvaRing, a vaginal ring you replace once a month, and the nonhormonal IUD, Paragard. Paragard causes heavier menstrual bleeding and cramps, but this often eases during the first year of use. There’s no perfect form of birth control. Good luck!
