This FAQ focuses on the National Academy of Science’s National Research Council science education standards. There are also educational standards in science, technology, mathematics, and geography that have been developed by a variety of scientific and educational organizations over the past few years. Prospective proposers and their partners should also be aware of these other disciplinary standards that may be pertinent to their proposed E/PO activities (see Appendix F). The National Academy of Science’s National Research Council published the National Science Education Standards (NSES) in 1995. This document is based on a nationwide collaboration of educators and scientists and is an important ingredient in modern science education reform efforts.
