What are EC/PPM meters and are the necessary?

0

An EC/PPM meter is a device that measures the Electrical Conductivity (total dissolved solids) in a nutrient solution and generally gives a reading in Parts Per Million. It can’t measure individual nutrients, but gives a total concentration of nutrients that are in your solution. These meters are not 100% necessary for a hydroponic grower but it does make things much easier. By using the back-of-the-bottle instructions, one never knows precisely what the overall concentration of solution is and can easily overdo it. This can become magnified if the grower is using multiple additives along with the main nutrient line. Those who want to maximize their nutrients solutions will need a PPM meter.
