E-xact, VeriSign and WorldPay are examples of “Transaction Processing Gateways”, also known as Internet Payment Gateways (IPG). They provide real-time financial transaction processing and management. Each IPG requires that the end user obtains an SSL certificate and a US or Canadian Internet Merchant Account such as AMEX, Mastercard or VISA.
