What Are Dried Hops?
Dried hops doesn’t have quite the same meaning as does dry hops when it comes to brewing beer, but the terms are often use interchangeably. Dry hops refer to a practice in which dried hops are added later in the brewing process, after the beer has cooked. The practice is referred to as “dry hopping”. Hops are plants which are added to beer during the brewing process. If it were not for hops, most beer would have too much of a sweet flavor. Hops, in some uses are referred to as bitters, adding a bitterness to the brew to counteract the natural sweetness. The amount of hops used will determine whether the final product is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, or neither. The amount of hops therefore goes a long ways in determining which types or brands of beer you or I have a preference for. Whether the dry hopping method is used or not, hops, a flowering vine, are usually dried in any event, before being used in the brewing process, so in that sense the hops used are always dried hops.
