What are dental implants?
Dental implants are small titanium posts that we place into the sockets left by missing teeth. Bone naturally integrates with the biocompatible metal to create a solid foundation, much like a tooth’s root. Your implant dentist will place a single implant or a multi-tooth prosthetic atop your implant(s) to complete your smile. Learn more about implant dentistry here.
Dental implants are metal posts that replace missing teeth. Most are made of titanium, which is a metal that is bio-compatible with human tissues. Titanium implants have been used for decades, without any known ill effects. They can be used in both the lower jaw (mandible) or the upper jaw (maxilla).
Implants are one of the most significant advancements in modern dentistry. Surgically placed below the gums, implants integrate or fuse to the jawbone and create a base for one of several restorations. Fixed crowns and bridges can be secured to implants. Full and Partial dentures can be dramatically stabilized by attaching them to implants. Most of our patients comment on a significantly increased confidence level with their restorations over implants.
(Click here to view 3D video on this subject) A dental implant is a strong externally and internally threaded titanium post. Titanium is used to fabricate dental implants because it is uniquely compatible with jawbone. After placement of a dental implant, jaw bone bonds to the titanium securing the two together. Once the dental implant has sufficiently bound to the jaw bone, the dental implant can be used to support dental devices which look and feel natural and may last a lifetime with proper care.
