What are degree days and what role do they play in energy savings?
A. Degree days are represented by an average of the ambient temperature for a given day and then subtracted from a mean temperature of 65 degrees. For instance, if a day averaged 30 degrees for a 24 hour period, then that is a degree day of 35. Degree days can have a major impact on short-term heating and cooling loads and thus can cost or save money.
