There are no specific unique symptoms that distinguish lung cancer from bronchitis or many other respiratory illnesses. That is what makes it so difficult to find early. By the time our patients have symptoms from lung cancer, it is most likely advanced and very difficult to cure. We want to find lung cancer before any symptoms, but even then they are difficult to cure. The best defense against lung cancer is to not smoke cigarettes. A man who does not smoke is 23 times less likely to develop a lung cancer than a man who is a long term chronic cigarette smoker.
