What are default cheques and why do I have to submit them?

Default cheques are used to secure a teams’ participation in the league. When a team fails to show up for a game or doesn’t give the proper 24-hour notice to their scheduled opponents about cancelling a game, one of their $40 default cheques gets cashed. If a team is guilty of defaulting twice then the second cheque is cashed and the team is excluded from any playoff action. Starting in 2005, there is now a third cheque for $75 which is a volunteering deposit. It is refundable to each team that volunteers some of their time to the league during the league’s ‘non-game’ activities. Teams failing to assist the league, will lose their $75. Sometimes in life events happen that prevent a team from playing a scheduled game and it is perfectly alright to cancel a game as long as the opponents are given proper notice. When notification of cancellation is done properly, no default cheques are cashed.
