What are database rights?
Some countries grant limited monopolies to the creators of databases independent of copyright. For instance, in jurisdictions that have adopted the European Database Directive, “makers” who meet the statutory criteria have exclusive “sui generis” rights that restrict particular uses of databases they create. In these countries, databases may receive protection from both copyright law and the sui generis database rights.
