What are CT Brain Scans used for?
CT brain scans can help doctors identify: • Brain damage in patients who have suffered injuries to the head • Blood clots and/or bleeding in the brains of patients showing symptoms of stroke • Location of bleeding in cases of suspected ruptured or leaking aneurysm • Brain tumours • Enlarged brain ventricles (cavities) in patients with hydrocephalus CT brain scans can also help doctors: • Examine cancers of the brain in preparation for radiation therapy • Insert and guide a needle into the brain to obtain a tissue sample of the brain (a brain biopsy) • Obtain a three-dimensional image of the brain structures • Perform CT angiography
