What are Creative Commons licenses?
Creative Commons licenses provide an easy way to manage the copyright terms that attach automatically to all creative works restricted by copyright, from “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved.” Our licenses allow those works to be shared and resused under terms that are flexible and legally sound. Creative Commons offers a core suite of six copyright licenses (there is no single Creative Commons license, as some mistakenly believe). All of our licenses require that users provide attribution (BY) to the original creator and licensor (where those are different) when the content is used and shared. Some licensors choose only to apply the BY condition (this is the CC BY license). Other licensors choose to combine BY with one or more of three additional conditions; a licensor can attach a NonCommercial (NC) condition to prohibit commercial use of the work; a licensor can also attach a NoDerivatives (ND) condition to allow use of the work provided it is not modified; and if modifica
