What are Controlled Recreation Areas (CRA)?

0

Aside from snowmobile closure areas, the only other tool used to manage recreation related closures identified in the SRMP is a Controlled Recreation Area (CRA). A CRA is not a new tool and has primarily been used to manage closures at ski resorts. Locally, for example, there is a CRA already in place on the Canoe Mountain project. Four pilot CRAs were put in place last year in key areas of the Valemount to Blue River planning area as part of a three-year pilot project. A CRA gives certain rights to “control access and use by other persons within the defined boundaries of the CRA”… “to avoid incompatible activities and to ensure that development and use occurs in a manner that is orderly and safe”. More information about CRAs can be accessed at http://www.tsa.gov.bc.ca/resorts_rec/resorts/ASR_Policy.pdf .
