What are considered high levels for a 3 hour glucose test?
I just took the 3 hour test at 28 weeks. The American Diabetes Foundation lists the following as threshholds for pregnant women who take the 100 glucose 3 hr test. Fasting less than 95 1 hr – less than 180 2 hr – less than 155 3 hr – less than 140 My guess for why they want to retest you is that they are identifying some risk factors that cause them to want to keep an eye on it (same reason they tested you so early). The 177 is high but acceptable except that the placenta begins producing a chemical between 24-28 weeks that inhibits your body’s ability to process insulin. Since you have one borderline high score at this stage, they are probably concerned about what could happen as the pregnancy progresses. If I were you, I would insist on the 1 hour test at 24-28 weeks and agree to do the three hour test again at that point if neccessary.
