What are composite fillings?
Composite resin dental fillings were created about 20 years ago as an alternative to traditional metal dental fillings. Composite fillings (or plastic dental resin) are composed of an organic plastic known as bisphenol-A-glycidyl methacrylate (BIS-GMA), and inorganic particles such as quartz, borosilicate glass, and lithium aluminum silicate. These fillings, colored to look like a natural tooth, are known as composite resin dental fillings. They are strong, durable, and make for a very natural looking smile. Many dental insurance plans now cover their use.
