What are companies and government doing about dioxin?
Both government and industry have been working to reduce dioxin emissions significantly since the 1970s. Governments work primarily through the regulatory process while industry not only makes changes to meet new regulations, but also works proactively to develop emissions reduction technology and new and more efficient processes that will generate fewer unwanted by-products. Dow has focused its dioxin reduction efforts on internal sources of dioxins that lead to low levels of environmental emissions and has achieved a reduction of 85 percent in dioxin emissions to air and water since 1995. Many regulations are in place to control emissions of dioxins and furans to the environment. For more information, please see Regulations and Public Policy.
