What Are Community Sport Councils?
Community Sport Councils are groups of sport and recreation leaders, and others interested in the development of sport and recreation, who meet and work to build sport in a community or region. Community Sport Councils serve as a forum for information exchange and coordination among sport clubs and associations, and they also create independent, collective projects to support their community. Community Sport Councils can have a diverse membership. Although sport organizations and clubs dominate, there are other stakeholder groups including: Schools, School Boards Business Health Agencies Social Service Agencies Service Clubs Tourism Associations Colleges/Universities. While many individuals and groups are touched by sport and recreation, and there are clear advantages to a diverse representation on a Community Sport Council, the sportalliance feels there are three key groups: community sport clubs, school sport, and municipal recreation.
