What are community sentences?
There are a wide range of community sentences: Community Punishment Order This means that the offender has to do a certain number of hours of unpaid work for the community. If they are in employment they will be expected to do it during their own time. The work is organised by the National Probation Service. If the offender breaches the order they may be taken back to court where they could be re-sentenced for the offence, which includes the possibility of a custodial sentence.
